Scribe: In what genre(s) do you write?
Andria Bicknell: Nonfiction (Self-Improvement, Motivational).
Scribe: What authors would you like to have coffee or a beer with and which beverage?
AB: Brené Brown. Coffee. I’m a recovering perfectionist. We’ll have our work cut out for us. Anne Lamott. Beer. I’m pretty sure we’d end up laughing our asses off anyway. She helps me not take myself so seriously. So, beer me.
Scribe: If you were stranded on a deserted island, what book would you want to have with you to keep you sane?
AB: Gift from the Sea by Anne Morrow Lindbergh. I could read this book over and over again. In fact, I have. She navigates the attraction and the isolation of solitude exquisitely. And well, she identifies sea shells.
Scribe: What have you learned from your association with the Writers’ League?
AB: If you want to meet a room full of people, do not sit down at a cocktail party.
Scribe: Where do you see your writing taking you (or you taking it) in the future?
AB: As a writer, the ultimate achievement is connection. I couldn’t ask for anything higher than to connect in an intimate and authentic way with a reader. To make a life and a living in a profession that facilitates that sort of soulful affinity is absolute bliss. And that’s exactly where I want my writing to take me.
Scribe: Is there anything else about you that you would like to share with the world? An opportunity for blatant self-promotion!
AB: Sure! My current book project is entitled type A plans B. It’s a blatant look at my failed attempts at perfectionism—or more accurately how perfectionism completely failed me. It’s painful. It’s vulnerable. It’s humorous. It’s authentic. And it’s healing. You can find me on my website and on Facebook at type A plans B.
