The Writers’ League will be strongly represented at the 2012 Texas Book Festival on October 27th and 28th. Several WLT members will be featured panelists and speakers, and our booth will showcase League writers and activities. Authors will be on hand to sell and sign their books, and talk about their experiences. In addition, staff and volunteers can answer questions about League membership and activities. Are you struggling with how to put together a “platform” for promoting your writing?
Whether you are working with a publisher or self-publishing, you will need to understand, plan and execute an effective marketing strategy or platform. This workshop will walk you through building a platform using both traditional and new media such as social media, visual, web, mobile, etc.
Elaine Gantz Wright is a writer, blogger, published ghostwriter, editor, new-media maven, speaker, actress, and mom. She is passionate about creating high-octane, high-impact multimedia messaging to empower businesses, brands, and community action. Currently, Elaine is focusing on building integrated content marketing strategies to promote small business, nonprofits and thought leaders. She is a frequent speaker to groups about social media optimization and has presented to the Faith and Philanthropy Conference, the Center for Nonprofit Management in Dallas, the HOBY Youth Conference, and the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s Technology Showcase. She has also served as a guest lecturer in social media optimization in corporate communications at SMU. Barnes & Noble Event – Round Rock
Cara Coffey, author of Uncovered No More, Volume 2, will sign copies of her books at the Round Rock Barnes & Noble store on Saturday, November 17th at 2:00PM. The store is located in the La Frontera Village at the intersection of IH-35 and SH-45.
In Uncovered No More Volume 2 (Tate Publishing, 2012). Cara Coffey continues her testimony from her first book, Uncovered No More. However, she also tells a different story in this second volume. She writes of the hope she sees as a woman who has walked with prophetic gifting in the United States. She testifies of a prophetic childbearing journey the Lord allowed in her life. She has labored in prayer for many years, and it is Cara’s hope that America will see repentance, deliverance, restoration, and revival within Christianity and also nationwide.
Cara has experienced and witnessed the difficulty of grassroots Christian people connecting at their congregation and home level. Delve into Uncovered No More Volume 2 and observe Cara’s prophetic thoughts on what she feels could help the body of Christ across America. All events are free and open to the public.

Russ Havard and David McClain Debut New Work in a Two-Person Exhibition. Both artists work with additive and subtractive methods, formal elements and the abandonment of formal elements. The exhibition will be accompanied by three Sundays of drawing salons on Oct. 28 led by Russ Havard, Nov. 11 led by Merilee Minshew and Dec. 9 led by David McClain. Author and futurist Bruce Sterling delivers the public keynote lecture of the Harry Ransom Center’s Flair Symposium “Visions of the Future” on Thursday, November 1, at 7:30 p.m. at Jessen Auditorium in Homer Rainey Hall.

Sterling, whose archive resides at the Ransom Center, is an American science fiction author best known for his novels and his work on the Mirrorshades anthology, which helped define the cyberpunk genre.
The 2012 Flair Symposium “Visions of the Future” continues Friday, November 2, and Saturday, November 3. It brings together historians, architects, industrial designers, and visionaries in the fields of science fiction, film, theater, and future studies to explore the ways the future has been imagined over time. Payment and pre-registration for the symposium is required; however, the keynote event is free and open to the public.
Seating is limited. Line forms upon arrival of the first patron, and doors open 30 minutes in advance. Registrants for the symposium will have reserved seats at the event.
