Meet the Members: Andrea Carrera

“I’ve lived in many cities around the globe. Snow-capped volcanoes, a humid archipelago with exotic animals, desert weather, and my love of children inspired the themes and settings of my books.”
-Andrea Carrera

A member of the Writers’ League of Texas since October, Andrea Carrera lives in Austin, Texas.
a_1pScribe: In what genre(s) do you write?
Andrea Carrera: I write Fantasy and Science Fiction for a middle-grade audience. I would like to try horror in the future.
Scribe: What author would you most like to have a drink with, and what’s the first question you would ask them?
AC: I would have a drink with Christopher Paolini and talk about world building.
Scribe: If you were stranded on a deserted island, what book would you want to have with you to keep you sane?
I would love to have a book about how to survive when stranded. And, I would want to read Dragon Rider by Cornelia Funke to distract myself and dream for a way out.
Scribe: What have you learned from your association with the Writers’ League?

AC: To have patience. I’ve also learned more about the literary world and how to be successful. Being around many published and aspiring authors gives me motivation and inspires me to write every day.
Scribe: Where do you see your writing taking you (or you taking it) in the future?
AC: In the future, I hope to publish several novels. I am a self-published author. The experience has been wonderful; however, I hope to publish books the traditional way from now on.
Scribe: Is there anything else about you that you would like to share with the world?
AC: I was born in Latin America. I’ve lived in many cities around the globe. Snow-capped volcanoes, a humid archipelago with exotic animals, desert weather, and my love of children inspired the theme and setting of my book.
I moved to the state of Texas when I was 14 years of age and grew to love the English language when I took my first grammar class in high school. But, it was not until I took an English grammar class at the University of Texas-Pan American that I felt inspired to write and finish the first draft of my upcoming middle-grade book tentatively entitled Galapagos Kingdom & the Green Medallion.
In my spare time, I like to hang out with friends and family, do water sports, illustrate, and write every day.
