Meet the Members

Marty Shelton has been a member of the Writers’ League for 14 years. He lives in Georgetown, Texas.

Scribe: In what genre(s) do you write?
Marty Shelton: I write in two genres: Historical action adventure–set, on-the-whole, in the Orient and information (documentary) film as a communication channel.
Scribe: What authors would you like to have coffee or a beer with and which beverage?
MS: Robert Benchley. After falling into a swimming pool, he famously quipped, “I think I’ll slip into a dry martini,” and the infamous, “Candy is dandy but liquor is quicker.” Accordingly, the booze of record is a dry martini, stirred not shaken, and two green olives.
Scribe: If you were stranded on a deserted island, what book would you want to have with you to keep you sane?

MS: The collected works of Raymond Chandler.
Scribe: What have you learned from your association with the Writers’ League?

MS: Met exceptional professionals and honed my writing skills.
Scribe: Where do you see your writing taking you (or you taking it) in the future?
MS: I will continue writing in fiction where I have a modicum of knowledge. I’m currently working on Shanghai Express, based on the 1929 Chinese warlord’s raid on an express train from Shanghai to Peking. On board were a cadre of Europeans and wealthy Chinese.
Scribe: Is there anything else about you that you would like to share with the world? An opportunity for blatant self-promotion!
MS: Writing is a nostrum for the soul–learning, commitment, and contribution.
