CALL FOR WLT HISTORIAN
The Writer’s League has a treasure trove of memorabilia from its 31-year history – photos, scrapbooks, old newsletters, 
etc. We are looking for an Austin-area member to serve as volunteer “historian” for the short term. He/she will sort through items, provide captions and identifying information for photos as possible, preserve scrapbooks and possibly compile new ones, scan pictures and articles for cloud storage, and deed certain items to the Austin History Center. No pay, but volunteer hours can earn free tickets to WLT classes and events. If you are interested in this position, please contact the League at wlt@writersleague.org or by phone at 512-499-8914.

Saturday November 17, 2:00 PM – Storyteller, singer, songwriter, and author,W.C. Jameson, will be reading from his new book Butch Cassidy: Beyond the Grave, which explores the myths and mythology of Cassidy’s life. This book is exceptionally well researched and explores not only Cassidy’s life in the United States, but his time in Bolivia–exploring the controversial question about whether or not Butch survived the shoot-out made infamous by Robert Redford and Paul Newman. W.C. is also available for interview.
Saturday, November 24, 11:00 AM – Join us as we read ‘How Do Dinosaurs Say Merry Christmas?’ for Storytime! From decorating the tree to wrapping presents, little dinosaurs love to celebrate Christmas-and everything about it. With ornaments on the branches and carolers singing at the door, the spirit of Christmas is finally here and filling the hearts of families everywhere. But when the stockings are hung on the chimney, and the cookies are left out for Santa, how can little dinosaurs go to sleep? It’s so exciting! How can they possibly calm down and behave? Stay for an amazing craft afterwards.
Friday, November 30, 7:00 PM – Come celebrate the Anderson High School Orchestra with a Bookfair to ring in the holidays. They will perform holiday favorites in our upstairs mezzanine. This event will truly get us in the spirit of the holidays. A portion of sales from the event will benefit the Anderson High School Orchestra.
Friday, December 7, 7:00 PM – Cookies, Cocoa and Crafts – Children of all ages are invited to don their pajamas and “wind their way to the North Pole” through a reading of the holiday classic. Cookies, hot cocoa, crafts and other activities will round out the festivities.
“The Polar Express is one of our most popular national Storytime events,” said Sarah DiFrancesco, Director of Community Relations for Barnes & Noble. “Each store puts its own creative spin on this holiday classic, making it extra fun for the booksellers and the customers.”

Joe Nick Patoski, author of The Dallas Cowboys: The Outrageous History of the Biggest, Loudest, Most Hated, Best Loved Football Team in America will sign copies of his book at the Round Rock Barnes & Noble store on Saturday, December 1st at 10:00 a.m. The store is located in the La Frontera Village at the intersection of IH-35 and SH-45.
The Dallas Cowboys have won five Super Bowls, ten conference championships, and twenty-one division championships, but those superlative numbers don’t begin to convey the voltage or jolting panache of our best-loved and most hated football team. Rendering the full story of “America’s Team” requires both skills and obsession, attributes that Joe Nick Patoski brings to his robust 816 page history of these NFL mainstays. Austin Poetry Society Event
November 17, Saturday, 1:30-3:30 p.m. APS meets at Twin Oaks Branch Library, 1800 South 5th at West Mary, for a Thanksgiving Open Microphone. Bring your poems to read, especially poems about the Thanksgiving holiday or just poems of gratitude. Poets who placed in the Poetry Society of Texas contests (announced November 10th), should give thanks for their awards by reading them for us. If you want a head start, write a new poem with the first line, “Today we need a poem about…” Turn in entries for our General and Humorous Verse contests; awards announced in the December meeting. Only members can enter the contests: no fee is required. All our meetings are free and open to the public.

Puerto Rican Folklore Dance Events
“Contribution of Puerto Rican Women to the Garment Industry Labor Movement”
Sponsored by La Pena through a grant from Humanity Texas, Dr. Maynard’s research presents a powerful tribute to Puerto Rican women who contributed to efforts to improve working conditions for New York City garment industry workers in the first half of the 20th century. The importance of building community and preserving cultural heritage rings through. Free and open to the public, informal talks on this research will be presented:

Dr. Maynard is a recognized expert resource on the mainland US for Puerto Rico’s cultural history and traditions. PRFDance at Fan Fest 2012 – Formula-1 Celebration – Nov 18, 3-4pm
The City of Austin has invited PRFDance to perform for FanFest, the massive festival celebrating the 2012 Formula-1 US Grand Prix, on Nov. 18th, 2012. Our city is expecting 300,000 visitors, many from around the world!
