CALL FOR ENTRIES
Fault Zone Contest
August 15, 2012 is the deadline for submissions to Fault Zone: Over the Edge, an anthology of short stories and poems written by the members of the San Francisco/ Peninsula Writers and published by Sand Hill Review Press. Fault Zone isn’t only about earthquakes. It’s about personal faults, shortcomings and the foibles of being human.
The contest is open to writers who are not members of the San Francisco/Peninsula Writers, a division of California Writers Club. Selected members of San Francisco/Peninsula Writers will be the judges of this contest. Entries should relate to the anthology’s theme in some way.
First Prize is $300 and publication in the next Fault Zone anthology. Second Prize is $100. Third Prize is $50. Contest deadline is August 15, 2012. Reading fee is $15. Judging should be completed by end of September. Prelaunch book party will be early December. The book will be on Amazon by January. Previously published work will be considered.

Love + Lust Photography Contest
We are currently accepting images for Open to Interpretation: Love + Lust. Lust is an intense appetite, craving, or untamed desire. We lust for an array of things—money, power, objects, sex, or just living life. Love is a powerful affection or personal attachment and comes in a variety of forms, which can encompass romantic, sexual, platonic, narcissistic, or even religious feelings or attitudes. And sometimes love and lust overlap. Show us your interpretations. Who or what do you love or lust for? What images capture these emotions for you?

Being selected to be part of this publication puts you in great company with other photographers, writers, and poets. George Beddingfield ~ Conditional: A Medical Mystery ~ Sat., July 28th, 11:00-1:00
Greed can be a lethal weapon in the hands of persons with power. CONDITIONAL, is a medical thriller which follows Dr. Jonathan Harding, a hospital accreditation surveyor, and his two colleagues, a nurse and a hospital administrator, during their 2005 assignment to survey a group of hospitals in the Dallas area.
The three run afoul of Larry Sullivan, a sociopathic hospital CEO, when the outcome of his hospital’s survey is conditional accreditation. Obsessed by greed, Sullivan also manages a profitable relationship with the drug cartels of northern Mexico. He fears the less than perfect outcome of his hospital’s just-completed survey will threaten his expected year-end bonus-money he urgently needs to pay off a huge debt to the Mexican drug lords.
A lifelong bully, Sullivan irrationally blames the survey team for his hospital’s poor performance. He rallies his clandestine associates to strong-arm the survey team to change their report to his advantage. His malicious actions cause stalking, assault, kidnapping, and painful injury to the medical team while carrying out their hospital inspections.
Peter Larsen, a young, handsome, and gum-chewing FBI agent, collaborates closely with the medical team to rescue the kidnapped surveyor and to unravel Sullivan’s link to the Mexican cartels. For more details click here.

Living Witness: Historic Trees of Texas (Texas A&M University Press, Spring, 2012) is a beautiful tribute to the natural heritage of the Lone Star State. Storyteller, Ralph Yznaga, celebrates the strong connections between Texans and their trees. His purpose is to share and preserve the rich history of Texas and its irreplaceable natural wonders. Inspired by the old Texas Forest Service book, Famous Trees of Texas, Yznaga has captured the continuing attachment we have to these magnificent reminders of our culture and history. Stunning images, stories, a detailed map, and driving directions to thirty-seven famous (and infamous) trees help us appreciate how entwined the lives of people and trees are. Joe Hayes Celebrates 30 Years at Wheelwright Museum – Santa Fe
This summer New Mexico’s favorite storyteller brings his bilingual blend of ghost stories, coyote yarns, and tall tales back to the Wheelwright Museum! Joe has delighted Santa Fe families and visitors for a generation with imaginative journeys through the Native American, Hispanic and Anglo cultures of the Southwest. If you’re in the Santa Fe area this summer we highly recommend celebrating Joe’s 30th year telling tales at the Wheelwright.
Joe will be sharing some of his most beloved stories every Saturday and Sunday evening starting at 7pm, from July 21-August 12. Admission is free!
Joe holds a distinctive place among American storytellers, and has won numerous awards for both his live performances and his children’s books.
