Wednesday Writing Prompt

Personal space means one thing when you’re standing on a crowded bus. But it means something else altogether when we sit down to write. Writers all use the white space on the page differently to affect pacing, tension, the emotional expression of the character, and the emotional experience of the reader. The way we use white space will change from project to project, and from scene to scene. So it’s important to explore and understand what it can do for us. (Oh, and it’s fun!) Try the following:

Take a short scene that’s been brewing in your head, and write it twice. The first time, write the whole scene in one, unbroken paragraph. The second time, write the same scene in single-line paragraphs.

As always, please post your response in the comments section so everyone can read it.

Enjoy!
