This event, featuring authors Bethany Hegedus, Bill Minutaglio, and Greg Garrett will kick off with speeches and a panel discussion with each of the authors. Then, after lunch, attendees will break up into their workshop with one of the four authors. Workshops are limited to 20 people each, so reserve your spot early by emailing Bambi Haley and telling her your 1st and 2nd workshop choices!
Meet the Authors!
Bethany Hegedus, WLT’s very own Office Manager, is the author of Between Us Baxters and the forthcoming Truth with a Capital T. She serves as a mentor in the PEN Prison Writing Program and holds an MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults from Vermont College of Fine Arts. She is the Co-Editor of the Young Adult’s and Children’s section of the literary magazine Hunger Mountain and is Austin Host of the popular website readergirlz.com
Bill Minutaglio has long been regarded as one of teh great writers in Texas journalism. He’s covered a variety of topics from Texas poverty in the time of plenty to history, the blues and the fall of the Berlin Wall. He has written several nonfiction books, including a biography of George W. Bush and City on Fire. His newest book, In Search of the Blues, is collection of his newspaper reporting. Currently, Minutaglio is teaching journalism at the University of Texas at Austin.
Greg Garrett is the author of critically-acclaimed novels Free Bird (chosen by Publishers’ Weekly and the Rocky Mountain News as one of the most promising fiction debuts of 2002), Cycling, and Shame, the memoirs Crossing Myself and No Idea, and nonfiction books including The Gospel according to Hollywood, Holy Superheroes, and his latest, We Get to Carry Each Other: The Gospel according to U2. A past winner of regional and national prizes for fiction and nonfiction, Greg is also a major writer for “The Voice,” a contemporary language Bible for the emerging church, and a frequent contributor to The Thoughtful Christian. Greg is a Professor of English at Baylor University where he has taught creative writing, literature, film, and theology) for the past twenty years and has twice won university-wide teaching awards.
